Definition of Respect
Respect is a measure of the psychological valuation of people and things — i.e. how much we value other people and things. By this definition, respect is also the currency of valuation of people and things.

Just as we place a monetary value on a piece of jewelry, a vehicle, or a house, we also place a value on people — psychological value, instead of monetary value.

What the ERM Does

The EKTIMIS Respect Model™ (ERM) converts the definition of respect into a visual form — to facilitate a better understanding of respect. It presents a comprehensive, yet simplified view of the various components and constructs of the concept of respect between people: in the workplace, at home, between friends, and the all-important self-respect.

The model illustrates the two basic kinds of respect, the three methods (each referred to as category) by which respect is commonly manifested, and the key factors that drive each of the three categories.

This model is a powerful tool for:

Learning Respect
Teaching Respect
Inspiring Others
Motivating Others
Training on the topic of Respect
Parenting on the topic of Respect
Communicating the Essence of Respect
Personal and Group Accountability

EKTIMIS Respect Magnets

The EKTIMIS Respect Model™ (ERM) shows that we manifest (show) respect three different ways — at a Human level, at a Positional level, and at an Earned (personal) level. Shown below are important (and largely universal) personal qualities and values that each of us can cultivate, or strengthen, that will enable us to command, promote, and gain more respect from others. Think of each of these qualities and values as magnets for respect.
